�ļ�ֱ�� Worldwide proudly hosted nearly 30 students and faculty from Auburn University and Clark Atlanta University earlier this month for an immersive educational experience. The event provided a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable insights into the industry through behind-the-scenes tours and engaging presentations.

One highlight of the day was an exclusive behind-the-scenes look into air cargo operations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta's International's Cargo Terminal, one of the busiest cargo hubs in the United States. There, students were able to witness the unloading of air cargo from an Air Canada Cargo plane, providing a firsthand look at the precision and efficiency required in global logistics operations.

Additionally, students and faculty were able to step onto the aircraft and explore its interior setup. This rare opportunity allowed them to better understand the intricacies of cargo loading and unloading, emphasizing the importance of logistics in the aviation industry.

Following the air cargo tour, participants were treated to an informative visit to an AGI warehouse, gaining insights into warehousing and distribution processes. Additionally, students were given a demonstration showcasing how K9s at the warehouse help detect illegal items such as explosives coming into the United States. This hands-on experience helped students connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications in supply chain management.

The educational day continued with a visit to the �ļ�ֱ�� Worldwide campus in Atlanta, where students enjoyed lunch and a Q&A session with �ļ�ֱ�� leadership and representatives from Air Canada. The students had the chance to engage in meaningful discussions and gain valuable industry perspectives.

What is your role at �ļ�ֱ�� Worldwide Sweden?��

For the past five years, I have worked as an Ocean Export Specialist at the Helsingborg branch in Sweden. As an LCL expert, I focus on service from Gothenburg to Charleston. This includes container planning, maintaining contact with the shipping lines, issuing required documents for shipping goods to the US, and keeping in close contact with my �ļ�ֱ�� Charleston colleagues.

What is the advantage of having LCL service from Gothenburg in Sweden to Charleston in the US?��

The reason why we’ve chosen to ship from Gothenburg port in Sweden is because it is the largest port in the Nordics. There we have a contracted and reliable terminal and it’s well located for goods from both northern and southern Sweden.��

And why do we ship to Charleston in the US?��

�ļ�ֱ�� in Charleston has its own terminal, which means that we have control over the cargo operations there, and with Charleston is ideally located for moving goods to their final destinations.

What are the benefits of an LCL service between Gothenburg and Charleston?��

Has shipping goods from the Nordics to the US changed after the Pandemic and if so, how?��

I feel the interest in shipping goods to the US has increased since the Pandemic as we are seeing more demand for shipping services.��

What challenges have you experienced after the Pandemic?��

The after effect of the Pandemic and the concern that prevails globally at the moment means that there is still a risk of shipping line changing sailing schedules with short notice.

What is important to think about when shipping goods to the US?��

Since the US has special requirements for sending goods there, it is important that you, as an exporter, have extra control over delivery conditions, what broker you choose, and who does the ISF filing. Everything must be in place before the goods are shipped; otherwise, there may be hefty fines at the destination, which could have been avoided.

What do you like about your job, and what do you find most rewarding?

No day is alike – that's something I find attractive about my job. I have been in the business for 35 years now. I love what I do and enjoy working with my nice colleagues across Sweden and the US.

Recently, �ļ�ֱ�� Brazil coordinated the Ex Works (EXW) import of machinery which was used to expand a plastics line.

The movement of this type of load is a complex activity, due to the many moving parts.

As a provider of global logistics solutions, the team in Brazil, in coordination with �ļ�ֱ�� USA, was able to guide the customer through the challenges of this type of shipment. Transporting this load involved advising the exporter, maintaining “on-time” communication between team members in the USA and Brazil, and monitoring the entire operation from start to finish.

A Tailor-Made Solution

In order to successfully deliver the load from New York, USA to Paranagua, Brazil the team chose to ship the machinery in a flat rack container. This allowed for the safe transport as flat racks are designed to move loads which are large and heavy all while providing flexible shipping options.

With a total transit time of 41 days, the load safely and successfully arrived at its destination within the established deadline.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) mandated that, by June 30th, 100% of international all-cargo aircraft flights receive the same level of security screening as cargo shipments on passenger fights.

�ļ�ֱ�� USA has been working closely with the TSA for several years to implement an in-house process for screening air cargo. As a result, �ļ�ֱ�� was one of the first freight forwarders approved to conduct trials in its major gateways using canine as a primary screening method. These canine teams can screen palletized cargo without the cargo being taken apart to screen, therefore cutting the screening process from hours to minutes.

Consequently, shipments move much faster through the supply chain with �ļ�ֱ�� taking control of the screening process and not having to rely on airlines and ground handlers who face some of the following challenges:

• Screenings taking more time than initially expected. �� ��
• Shipments being left behind by carriers due to incomplete screenings. �� ��
• Some carriers only accepting pre-screened cargo. �� ��
• Full terminals and airport facilities resulting in rejected cargo. �� ��
• Lack of warehouse space for storing cargo as it goes through the screening process.

Over the past year, �ļ�ֱ�� USA has been working diligently to prepare for this new screening mandate and is excited to see those benefits passed on to its customers. �ļ�ֱ�� customers who need help navigating these new challenges should contact their local �ļ�ֱ�� office to learn more about how �ļ�ֱ�� keeps cargo moving.

Under the best of circumstances, supply chain management can be a complex process. It can be even more complicated during the tropical storm season when the risk of monsoons, typhoons, and hurricanes peaks. These tropical storms create high winds and flooding, disrupting and delaying freight transportation, which can potentially cause supply chain failures and revenue loss. While severe weather is not something that can be controlled, there are several ways that you can ensure a resilient supply chain and minimize potential disruptions.

1. Know How to Prioritize Your Freight: The severe weather associated with tropical storms can shut down ports and airports. When they do open back up, capacity and may be limited, and there may also be extensive backlogs. By knowing what freight is most important, you can help prevent further disruptions downstream. ��
2. Plan for Inventory Disruptions: During the peak of tropical storm season, it can be wise to plan for additional inventory to be on hand if your supply chain is disrupted due to significant port and airport closures and delays. ��
3. Watch the Weather: Taking a proactive approach to monitoring the weather during tropical storm season is vital. It allows you to stay well-informed of impending severe weather that might impact shipment delivery. While forecasts change at a moment’s notice, it is essential that you are aware of the weather forecast and any precautionary measures taken locally, such as port and airport closures and shelter-in-place orders.
4. Utilize Technology to Increase Supply Chain Visibility: In the event of severe weather, maintaining supply chain visibility and real-time access to information about paused and canceled shipments is vital. By maintaining supply chain visibility, you can more easily identify potential problems, allowing you to make early and informed decisions that can help keep your supply chains running smoothly.
5. Maintain a Line of Communication: When severe weather occurs, it is important to maintain a clear line of communication with your service providers. This means ensuring that your provider knows which cargo is of the highest priority and giving as much warning as possible about a needed shipment as canceled flights and closed ports can delay shipment and reduce capacity.

On May 13th, 2021 �ļ�ֱ�� Uruguay organized three air charters from Montevideo to Guatemala. ���ļ�ֱ�� offers routine flight operations to many key trade-lanes utilizing the extensive �ļ�ֱ�� network of air gateways. These gateways along with the teams’ expertise in the air market, enabled �ļ�ֱ�� Uruguay to find and create the best possible combination of locations for the freight to travel through to reach its destination.

The project had to be coordinated very quickly, as the customer required the cargo to be delivered within 7 days of placing the request with �ļ�ֱ�� to find a solution. �ļ�ֱ�� immediately began working and coordinating with LATAM Cargo, the carrier of �ļ�ֱ��’ choosing to handle this delivery. The LATAM Cargo operational team has worked with �ļ�ֱ�� in the past and has always provided the best accommodations possible. Strong relationships with carriers such as LATAM Cargo are a part of what gives the �ļ�ֱ�� team the ability to achieve seemingly impossible tasks, with accuracy and efficiency.

The charter was organized using a B767-300 freighter, which is the more fuel-efficient of the medium-widebody freighters available currently on the market. The aircraft departed the MVD airport in Uruguay at 22:30 HRS after having the loading operation supervised by the �ļ�ֱ�� Uruguay team. The �ļ�ֱ�� team coordinated the cargo drop off, documentation, receipt at the terminal, labeling & repacking, compliance checks, and loading procedures, all while providing the customer with real-time updates and tracking of the departures and arrivals via satellite follow-ups once the cargo was in the air. The air charter then arrived at the La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala on Friday the 14th at 06:02 HRS local time.

The last 2 charters included an average of 48 tons per flight. Each flight containing both hazardous and non-hazardous materials that required IATA DEG regulation labeling and repack work for the extra protection of the cargo. �ļ�ֱ�� can evaluate and handle all different types of HAZMAT materials in compliance with IATA regulations. �ļ�ֱ�� is also not limited to dangerous goods or general cargo and regularly handles perishable goods and pharma products that require temperature control.

March 2020, Miami, and many of the surrounding counties in Florida (USA) faced new mandates and government regulations due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which posed a difficult challenge for �ļ�ֱ�� Miami. Like many �ļ�ֱ�� branches the work environment changed suddenly- as did the needs of customers. With some adjustments, endless enthusiasm and positive karma, �ļ�ֱ�� Miami was able to grow considerably in 2020, gaining more business through some major existing clients, as well as launching new projects and strengthening the �ļ�ֱ����network into Latin America (LATAM). That network is important for �ļ�ֱ�� overall because �ļ�ֱ�� Miami is the main access point into LATAM and through this �ļ�ֱ�� USA Gateway almost 4.5 million kilos of cargo are moved from APAC (Asia Pacific) and Europe to LATAM and the Caribbean.

In October 2020, �ļ�ֱ�� announced additional weekly Flight Operations, Chicago – Atlanta & Miami. This new service is provided to further support customers in the Americas Region, which also includes mid-week departures to LATAM. �ļ�ֱ�� Miami operates diligently with �ļ�ֱ�� Chicago, as they are both official HUBS for �ļ�ֱ��, receiving weekly trucks of consolidated freight destined for many LATAM locations. This process is rather complex and requires some of the finest positioning between all areas, requiring the customer service team to closely monitor freight through C1, where shipments are processed from origin. The warehouse team then receives, segregates, and repacks as needed in preparation for the destination country.

A long time �ļ�ֱ�� Miami customer approached �ļ�ֱ�� to handle the deployment & retrieval of all voting machines in Los Angeles County, this task was completed thanks to the support of �ļ�ֱ�� LAX; additionally, �ļ�ֱ�� Miami coordinated the logistics for two overseas elections in 2020. These projects were of great significance and importance for �ļ�ֱ�� USA, and �ļ�ֱ����is proud to be a part of this process.

�ļ�ֱ�� Miami also coordinated the logistics of a major mobile phone launch for LATAM, supporting one of the largest distribution groups in the region. These are the same visionaries who made the Colon Free Zone a reality, the world’s second largest free trade zone.
