With rapid growth occurring in the Perishables sector in Mexico, �ļ�ֱ�� has decided to retake and pursue this industry by offering more diverse options for our customers with new destinations available around the world.

Starting in September Luis Chavez joined �ļ�ֱ�� Mexico in the new role as Country Head of Perishables, reporting to Hugo Cardenas, Head of Airfreight for the organization, both being located at �ļ�ֱ�� Mexico Headquarters in Guadalajara.

Luis brings over 30 years of experience to the company with a degree in International Commerce. He started very early on in the forwarding industry with his career and now has 32 years of experience, specializing in Air Operations. Luis has experience with the operation & administration of charter flights and ACMI (27 years of experience/aircrafts:  727/DC-8, 747-4F and 747-8F). He has managed country operations for global accounts, including air, ocean, cross dock, and logistics. He specifically has 11 years of experience with Air Perishables, handling a diversified product portfolio; berries, avocados, limes, mangos, asparagus, etc to Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Luis also has 15 years of experience with the overland local and USA, to build up business demands, as well as 7 years of ocean experience.

With Luis's background and other related business strengths, �ļ�ֱ�� is very excited to have Luis joining the team.

The current pandemic has caused shipping disruptions across the globe.  

With a 70% reduction in passenger flights since February 2020, the overall global air freight capacity is down about 25% from this time last year.  Limited space on limited flights means frequent delays and interruptions of supply chains globally.

With the unpredictable availability of cargo space, how do we regain control of air freight to ensure service in such a critical time?  

The traditional air freight model is no longer a realistic option, instead Flight Operations are the key for maintaining a reliable and uninterrupted supply chain by providing door-to-door control of the shipping process. With a Flight Operation, every step of the process - from the time the cargo is picked up to its final delivery - is meticulously managed by the service provider.  

Shipments are processed through facilities controlled by the service provider, both at origin and destination. This system avoids the typical congestion at airport hubs, reduces overall transit time, and increases control.

�ļ�ֱ�� is proud to announce that Ariel Kraft has joined the �ļ�ֱ�� Family as REGIONAL ACCOUNT DIRECTOR – LATAM, starting July 1st.

Mr. Ariel Kraft has Business Administration degree and  MBA in Customer Experience Management,  with 18 years’ experience in global  forwarding. He started his professional career in Air & Sea Operations, Customs Clearance  and moved to sales  to develop Trade Lane Germany to South America  before he took  the responsibility to  manage the automotive vertical  and National  sales structure in Brazil  in two different Germany freight forwarders during the last 10 years.

Mr. Kraft started his career in Brazil in 2003 and left 11 years later after being responsible for the Automotive Vertical and Sales Management of the subsidiary. On his last company prior to joining �ļ�ֱ��, he had the role of National Sales Manager and Key Account Manager for the Americas, their most relevant Automotive clients.

Ariel is going to be based in our office in Sao Paulo, Brazil and will be working on business development of large accounts in the region, with focus mainly on new logos.

Reduced global air cargo capacity, blank sailings, carrier solvency, increasing port congestion, and last-mile delivery delays are adding to an ever-growing riskier global environment that threatens supply chains.

Uncertain times often require creative measures. As shippers look to replenish inventory levels as well as budget logistics costs in such an unpredictable environment, partnering with a freight forwarder such as �ļ�ֱ�� helps to reduce such risks and cost concerns.

�ļ�ֱ�� has always worked closely with shippers to offer solutions that balance planning with responsiveness and agility. The COVID-19 pandemic highlights this need as shippers continue to benefit from the expertise of �ļ�ֱ�� during this crisis.

For several years, �ļ�ֱ�� Italy has worked with several Italian Government institutions by serving their logistics requirements. The relationship has become even closer during the pandemic as �ļ�ֱ�� took charge of a certain Italian Government institution’s import/export distribution process to obtain and distribute Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) commodities.

�ļ�ֱ�� initially arranged shipments from China, Brazil, and South Africa mainly through general cargo urgent flights. However, as demand dramatically increased, �ļ�ֱ�� recognized that the available market capacity was not meeting the needs of its customers. As a result, �ļ�ֱ�� ramped up the use of charter flights to better meet customer requirements.  

Since February, �ļ�ֱ�� has moved millions of masks along with protective suits, visors, gloves, respirators, pulmonary ventilators, test tubes, and swabs.

By chartering flights, �ļ�ֱ�� was able to help other customers as well. For example, a German-based provider of medical and hygiene products turned to �ļ�ֱ�� to supply N95 masks to the governments of Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. �ļ�ֱ�� utilized multiple chartered flights from Shanghai to Frankfurt to distribute not only to the governments involved but also to pharmacies for wider distribution to non-governmental organizations and the public at large.

�ļ�ֱ�� was able to support customers in Peru, Colombia, and Mexico building southbound connections with the charter flights arriving to the USA from Asia.

The ability to rapidly charter flights between countries could not have been accomplished in such a quick and efficient manner without the expertise of the �ļ�ֱ�� World Air Freight Team (WAT) whose close relationship with a number of aircraft owners allowed �ļ�ֱ�� to find the right equipment, mostly 747-8 and 747-4 cargo planes, at the right time and in the right location for its customers.

Collaboration with �ļ�ֱ�� China was crucial as requirements for moving Personal Protection Equipment changed almost on a daily basis. Communication was a key success factor with �ļ�ֱ�� China establishing a daily communication channel to keep the whole �ļ�ֱ�� network up to date with the latest information.

�ļ�ֱ�� has now implemented full scheduled flight operations in the transatlantic corridor. Offering weekend flights from Chicago to Frankfurt and back.

�ļ�ֱ�� is also continuing special charter flights both with cargo aircraft or ghost flights from Shanghai to Chicago and from Hong Kong to Los Angeles.

Through the We Qare program, the airline is donating 1 million kilos of freight space on its airplanes to selected customers around the world to give to the charities of their choice.

�ļ�ֱ�� Worldwide took advantage of this fantastic program on behalf of the World Food Program and moved almost 50 tons of Personal Protective Equipment and supplies from Shanghai, China to Dhaka, Bangladesh at the end of July, free of charge.

In late June and early July 2020 �ļ�ֱ�� Aerospace Mexico transported 3 Helicopters from a Helicopter School located in Veracruz Airport (General Heriberto Jara) to Mexico City, Benito Juarez Airport, Terminal 2.

This moved took place between June the 30th 2020 & July the 1st 2020. This transport required 2 flat bed trucks to be used to transport the 3 Helicopters. Besides managing logistics of the domestic trucking required to make this transport possible, �ļ�ֱ�� Aerospace Mexico was also in charge of handling the crane required to load the cargo at the origin as well as unload at the destination. The loading took around 4 hours of operation time, plus 3 hours for unloading.

The mission was a total success, the 3 Helicopters were delivered on time and without any issue. These Helicopters are used for training and have 2 passengers cabin seating in each. With maximum take off gross weight of 794kg, empty weight (standard configuration) 500kg, with a useful load of 294kg. They are 6.76mt long, 1.99mt wide, and have a height of 2.65mt.

We must do things slow, with all the planning done in advance, making sure to have the right vendors, and we  always have �ļ�ֱ�� personnel on site to make sure we do everything in the safest manner possible. These type of shipments are part of the Aerospace services �ļ�ֱ�� Mexico have been promoting since August 2019. Allowing �ļ�ֱ�� customers to achieve their goals, on time, and without concern. These are some of the characteristics of the Helicopters:

During the peak of the Italian Covid-19 crisis, �ļ�ֱ�� South Africa received instructions from �ļ�ֱ�� Italy to handle an urgent PPE shipment for the PROTEZIONE CIVILE ITALIANA. 11,343 cartons containing surgical masks needed to be uplifted from Durban, transported to Johannesburg and sent by airfreight to Italy.

The necessary arrangements with �ļ�ֱ�� South Africa’s transporter were swiftly made and all of the cargo was uplifted on 12 trucks and moved up to Johannesburg. Upon arrival, the merchandise was palletized into two shipments, respectively of 251 and 154 Pallets. Simultaneously, negotiations were taking place with various airlines for Charter options and our long-term partner, Cargolux, was chosen as the airline of choice. The two shipments were then booked on two Charters, the first one departing on the 21st of March and the second on the 28th of March. Arrangements with Cargolux continued being processed as relevant traffic rights were needed to be obtained in order for the Charters to move directly into Italy from South Africa.

The first shipment was delivered to Cargolux on the 19th of March, and the flight departed as scheduled. The second shipment proved to be more challenging, as South Africa was on the verge of a Nationwide lockdown, which began on the 27th of March. However, thanks to �ļ�ֱ�� South Africa’s efforts, the shipment made it out on time and was successfully loaded on board the flight which departed on schedule. This second shipment was on the last Cargolux flight out of South Africa, which was Day 1 of the South Africa lockdown.

As economies around the world are suffering from the impact of Covid-19, businesses are experiencing losses, workers are without jobs, and many face the challenge of a complete upheaval of lifestyle. However, pharmaceutical companies are taking center stage in the Covid-19 fight, and one of these is a Korean conglomerate, SK Group, is seeing growth on the stock market and a new burst of innovation in the infectious disease landscape as the race for treatment approval for a Covid-19 therapy takes off.

SK Group, the 2nd largest group in Korea after Samsung with an annual revenue of $213.6B in 2018, has two arms of pharmaceutical subsidiaries, SK Pharmteco, the pharmaceutical intermediate, and API manufacturer & SK Biopharmaceuticals, the new drug development.

With support from �ļ�ֱ�� APAC & �ļ�ֱ�� Worldwide, �ļ�ֱ�� Korea has become a contracted freight forwarding business partner for SK Biotek as of last December, then after months of implementation period, �ļ�ֱ�� has been handling various types of Pharmaceutical export shipments by Air & Ocean to additional International Pharmaceutical companies in Europe.

Due to the nature of the cargo, pharmaceutical products, they must be mostly carried by air freight, using special equipment such as dry ice gel/ ice pack, cool/ reefer truck, temperature-controlled storage, and even RKNs which require thorough knowledge and experience to handle such a commodity properly and in a timely manner.

The RKN e1 is a one pallet size container, based on a second-generation active temperature control system and utilizes compressor cooling and electric heating technology, to meet the requirements of the pharmaceutical industry for smaller air shipments.

The RKN e1 container maintains product temperatures in the +2 to +8 °C range, controlled room temperature (+15 to +25 °C) range,  �ļ�ֱ�� Korea has successfully arranged 11 RKN e1 for its door to door delivery to a Spanish Pharmaceutical consignee with Dap term in March, when the Pandemic was in the peak.

SK Pharmteco’s subsidiary, AMPAC is one of the strategic partners to a U.S. public benefit drug manufacturing corporation, which recently received federal government funding of $354 million for advanced manufacturing of America’s most essential medicines at risk of shortage, including those for the COVID-19 response. With its strategic partners, it has initiated manufacturing chemical precursor ingredients, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and finished dosage forms for over a dozen essential medicines to treat hospitalized patients with COVID-19-related illnesses.

SK Biotek will supply pharmaceutical intermediates to AMPAC and has appointed �ļ�ֱ�� Korea as the logistics provider for this project. The 1st air shipment was exported to AMPAC in California, USA by suing 5 x RKN e 1 in close cooperation with �ļ�ֱ�� San Francisco on June 15th, all 5 x RKNs were successfully delivered to AMPAC on the next day. After the ingredient’s analysis main orders will be placed shortly and �ļ�ֱ�� will continue to handle this business. Next opportunity will be export business out of AMPAC to overseas with the finished products.

�ļ�ֱ�� Korea is continuing to expand their reputation as the perfect solution for the transportation of pharmaceutical products in the market with these continued efforts excellent team-work. We are sure �ļ�ֱ�� will be leading the market in a near future.
